Smile and frown lines, while proof of an expressive past, don’t have to ruin our present or future. Many people have chosen to reduce the appearance of these lines in order to achieve a smoother, more youthful face without surgery. If that sounds appealing, then a Juvéderm facial filler may be the right fit for you.
What Juvéderm Can Accomplish
Juvéderm is an injectable dermal filler used to smooth out moderate to severe facial wrinkles, including “crow’s feet” around the eyes, nasolabial folds (the deep folds between the cheeks and nose) and “marionette lines” (between the nose and the mouth’s outer corners). Juvéderm consists of a smooth gel made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration, which is then injected with a syringe at the treatment area. The result? A smooth, natural look and feel for the face that lasts about six months.
What Sets Juvéderm Apart?
Juvéderm is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler proven to be safe and effective for persons of color. Compared to collagen, it is smoother and less likely to create lumpiness and irregularities in the skin. Juvéderm also lasts three times as long as collagen. Juvéderm is also less acidic than Restylane, and so it is more comfortable when injected.
Am I A Candidate For Juvéderm?
You may be a good candidate for Juvéderm if you:
- Have facial wrinkles that you want to diminish
- Have thin or aged-looking lips that you want to augment
- Have sunken areas around the eyes and cheekbones that you want to look fuller
- Have acne or surgical scars on the face that you want to reduce in appearance
Juvéderm Treatment Details
Juvéderm is a non-surgical treatment that takes about 30 minutes. If the patient desires, the doctor will first numb the areas that will be treated. He will then use a syringe to inject the smooth Juvéderm gel into the trouble areas. The smoothing and plumping of facial lines are seen immediately, with the desired results usually achieved in one treatment. After the treatment, the patient can immediately resume normal activities.
Juvéderm Recovery
Most patients experience only mild discomfort after a Juvéderm treatment, with some initial soreness where the Juvéderm gel has been injected. There may be mild swelling or firmness as well, though it typically subsides in a week or less. Some patients have experienced bruising as a result of the treatment, though this is rare, and easily covered by makeup. Overall, there is little to no downtime as a result of a Juvéderm treatment. Patients can return to work immediately, and can resume regular exercise within a day or two.
